Simon joined Towerhouse in July 2020 as a Trainee Solicitor following a career as a City analyst. He qualified in April 2022 as a Solicitor with the firm. Since joining Towerhouse Simon has advised in the electronic communications, energy, airports, payments and digital markets sectors.
Prior to going into the City Simon worked for Mercury Communications where he held roles in strategy, marketing and business planning and worked in the regulatory team on its successful lobbying for the modernisation of UK telecoms regulation of the mid to late 1990s.
As an investment bank analyst, mostly at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, Simon applied this experience to understand the financial impacts of changes in regulation, mergers, spectrum auctions, infrastructure outsourcing and the extraordinary economic changes wrought by new technology and the rise of online businesses. His coverage spanned fixed and mobile telecoms, cable and pay TV, data centres and tower companies. His research successfully anticipated Ofcom’s decision to legally separate Openreach from BT, the changes to European regulation to promote investment in fast broadband and the $130 billion sale by Vodafone of its stake in Verizon Wireless, among other industry changing events.
Simon has a degree in maths from Oxford University, a Graduate Diploma in Law from the University of Law and completed his Legal Practice Course at BPP. He served in the RAF and enjoys hiking, cooking and sailing.
