Legal Team James Singer

James joined Towerhouse as a trainee in 2015 with a wealth of previous experience in the telecommunications industry and private practice.

During his training and since qualifying in 2017, James has built up an experience of litigation and competition law in the regulated sectors of telecommunications and energy. He has participated in contentious competition and public law matters in the telecommunications sector in a variety of courts and hearings before national regulatory authorities.

In addition to litigation, his work also includes public policy advice in the energy sector, as well as advice on payment services, gambling regulations and technological sectors.

Recent cases include:

BT v Ofcom and Others [2017] CAT 25, acting for interveners in BT’s appeal of Ofcom’s decision to impose a dark fibre remedy;

EE Limited v Ofcom and Others [2017] EWCA Civ 1873, concerning the statutory and EU duties of the regulator in setting the amount payable by operators for radio spectrum;

Hutchison 3G UK Limited v Ofcom and Others [2018] EWCA Civ 284, also in relation to the duties of the regulator on radio spectrum policy.

James is native French speaker and a classical guitarist, having studied music at the University of Southampton (BA Mus, MA) before beginning his career in law, qualifications for which were obtained at the College of Law in Guildford (GDL, LPC).
